SATS rolls out $18m investment for robotic production line, kitchen expansion

It's mechanising up to 50% of kitchen operations.

Robots are taking over SATS’ kitchen, as the firm is rolling out an $18m investment to mechanise up to 50% of kitchen operations and to expand its kitchen facility.

According to SATS’ news release, the investment is fueling a new production line expected to boost productivity and capacity across both of SATS’ inflight catering centres to about 115,000 meals a day.

“The new production line will include automated sauce and ingredient dispensers as well as robotic wok paddles—speeding up soup, sauce and rice production and part of its dishing process,” SATS reported.

“The highly automated system will be capable of processing food on a large scale which will in turn enhance consistency in taste and quality as well as further reduce labour intensive processes,” it added.

To house the new line, SATS will boost its Inflight Catering Centre 2 by 5,000 sqm, bringing SATS’ total facility to 60,000 sqm. The facility extension is scheduled for completion by 2Q17.
