Sarah Jessica Parker has non-traditional brides covered

Sarah Jessica Parker has opened up about the creation of her new bridal collection -- and don't expect to see any meringue dresses.

The actress and fashion designer's "SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker" label has teamed up with the fashion brand Gilt on a 10-piece clothing range for the "non-traditional bride" that launched this week.

"Collaborating with Gilt on my first bridal ready-to-wear collection was an opportunity I couldn't pass up," the star said in a statement. "The team there is brilliant and allowed me to be imaginative and take risks as I was designing for the non-traditional bride. It has been quite fun to play around with colors, fabrics and details to create unique pieces for all kinds of brides."

The collection features fashion-forward pieces designed with various stages of the wedding journey in mind. And, as Parker stresses in a video posted on the brand's website: "These pieces are not limited to a wedding, they're also great for other special occasions and for parties that are unrelated to milestone events."

To that end, there are bodysuits, jumpsuits, feather skirts and dresses -- all in a variety of colors encompassing cream, blush and pastel blue, alongside bolder tones such as scarlet and black. Fabrics include cashmere and stretch crepe sourced from Spain, Italy and France, and the pieces are adorned with intricate bows and embroidery.

As part of the launch, the SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker footwear line has also come up with 15 exclusive shoe styles designed to go hand in hand with the clothes.

The SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker Bridal Collection is mostly available in sizes 0 to 14 on gilt.com priced from $295 to $2,395.
