RM445m Set Aside For Rawang Road Upgrade

RM445m Set Aside For Rawang Road Upgrade

After suffering from traffic congestion problems for many years, residents in Rawang can now breathe a sigh of relief after the Federal Government has approved a grant to facilitate a road widening project at Jalan Perindustrian Rawang.

The grant comes after Selayang MP William Leong had raised the traffic congestion issue in Parliament during the last three terms. Last August, he also wrote the Finance Ministry seeking for allocation to upgrade the 3.1km industrial road under the 11th Malaysia Plan in Budget 2020.

Leong revealed that the industrial road was linked to PLUS Highway’s Rawang toll towards Sungai Buloh, Shah Alam, Kuala Lumpur, KLIA and Putrajaya, reported The Star.

“The road also connects to Bandar Country Homes in Rawang, Bestari Jaya (Kuala Selangor) and Tasik Puteri (Batu Arang) as well as a few primary and secondary schools,” he said.

“Residential areas such as Taman Pelangi, Taman Emerald and Taman Garing Utama are also affected by this road.”

Aside from the road widening project, Leong also revealed plans to construct an elevated highway in order to accommodate nearby industrial zones.

“Heavy vehicles ply this road often and we have also asked for a pedestrian bridge to be built for the students’ safety,” said Leong.

To resolve flash flooding issues near Kota Emerald, the drainage system would be upgraded, while traffic lights will be installed at six junctions.

“The allocation for the three projects is worth RM445 million,” he added.

Preliminary works for the projects are expected to start next year, said Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat.

“However, the planning and design for the projects has not been finalised.

“The Public Works Department (JKR) has to do preliminary work before construction can start,” said Chua.

Rawang resident Wan Han Ming hoped the “road widening project can be done soon as it is tiring to deal with traffic everyday in Rawang”.
