Riot Games details Riot Direct, their improved network infrastructure

In a new video on their YouTube channel, Riot Games has given details on Riot Direct, their attempt at building an alternative network specifically for League of Legends in North America.

Basically, the game developer has been working with internet service providers to lay out their own fiber lines and server routers across the country. The result is more stable, lower ping for most players around the United States.

In a country as big as the United States, it’s difficult to get players ping as low as, say, Korean players enjoy, but this is a step towards that direction. Interestingly, Riot mentions that their technology may be used for things other than League of Legends, perhaps hinting at whatever the newly acquired Radiant Games is working on.

Riot has also implied that they could take the technology around the world, perhaps improving the often struggling European servers.
