Yahoo Finance Queen Elizabeth Was All Smiles at a Military Parade in Scotland
Queen Elizabeth is in Scotland this week, making her first public appearances since the Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this month. Today, the British monarch was all smiles at a military parade, the Armed Forces Act of Loyalty Parade, at the Palace at Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
Dressed in a lilic dress and matching hat, an outfit which she adorned with pearls, ornamental buttons, and a thistle-shaped brooch featuring an amethyst (an apt accessory as the purple thistle is a national symbol of Scotland), the Queen viewed the parade and received a royal salute. Given her ongoing mobility issues, she also walked with a cane, but appeared to be in good spirits today, smiling throughout her appearance.
During the ceremony, the Queen received the key to Edinbugh castle from Major General Alastair Bruce of Crionaich, Governor of Edinburgh Castle, who presented it to her alongside cadets from the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
“We, the serving members of Your Majesty’s Armed Forces, bound by our oath to You, your Heirs and Successors, offer for Your gracious acceptance the Key to Your Majesty’s Royal Castle of Edinburgh,” the group said.
To which the Queen responded:
“I return this key to the safekeeping of My Governor of Edinburgh Castle, in gratitude for the symbolic Act of Loyalty of Our Armed Forces, confident of your faithful allegiance to your oath.”
Earlier this week, the Queen was joined by her son Prince Edward and daughter in law Sophie Wessex for the traditional ceremony of the keys at Holyroodhouse.
While in Scotland, the British monarch also presented Her Majesty's Medal for Music for the year 2021 to John Wallace.
