Precision Medicine to Be Major Focus of 2015 BioBusiness Asia Conference

TAIPEI, TAIWAN--(Marketwired - May 25, 2015) - The BioTaiwan 2015 festival of biotech-focused events will take place 22-26 July in Taipei, Taiwan.

"The highlight of the festival will be the two-day (July 22-23) BioBusiness Asia Conference (BBA), one of Asia's leading annual business-focused biotech gatherings. The main theme will be on 'precision medicine' this year with other sessions covering open innovation, finance and investment, business models, IP valuation, licensing and partnering. This year's program is very global with lots of overseas speakers and support from the financial community," said Dr. Johnsee Lee, Chairman of the BioTaiwan 2015 Organizing Committee, a reflection of the event's rising status in the region's biotech community.

Precision medicine can create better combination of diagnostics and drug development platforms. This global approach as stated in US President Obama's January 2015 'Precision Medicine Initiative' is particularly important for Taiwan in bringing down the healthcare cost by better targeted and more effective personalized treatment of illness. "Precision medicine is a good fit for Taiwan," said Lee.

An emphasis on company presentations at BBA 2015

"In addition to the startups, we are inviting some established companies, the idea being that they can come back every year to report on their progress. If we can replicate the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference model, then BBA will attract more a steady audience in the future," explained Lee.

Five events in one at BioTaiwan 2015, all at one convenient location

BBA is only a part of BioTaiwan 2015 that also includes the exhibition, the "Greater China Opportunities" Conference, one-on-one partnering and a wide range of seminars and workshops. Different from the past, all events -- including BioBusiness Asia -- will be held at the same venue, the Nangang Exhibition Center this year. Even with an increase in floor space by 10% over last year, all 1,250 booths for this year's BioTaiwan Exhibition have already sold out.

The "Greater China Opportunities" Conference to be held 24 July is another big draw every year. This conference identifies opportunities in China, partnering models and success stories with behind the scenes discussion between companies from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and as such always attracts strong interest from China. We expect 200-300 delegates from China, at least" said Lee.

The booming biotech industry is both the result and cause at the same time of Taiwan's vibrant biotech capital market, Lee is optimistic about the future of the industry here and BioTaiwan as a showcase for much of it. "The publicly listed biotech companies on Taiwan's stock markets has increased from 38 in 2009 to over 100 today. Besides, there are so many new companies now; every month I see several new ones," said Lee.
