SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Pivotal Software Inc. (PVTL) on Thursday reported a loss of $38.9 million in its fiscal fourth quarter.
The San Francisco-based company said it had a loss of 15 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for stock option expense and amortization costs, came to 7 cents per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 9 cents per share.
The software and services company posted revenue of $169.2 million in the period, which missed Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $170.1 million.
For the year, the company reported a loss of $141.9 million, or 64 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $657.5 million.
For the current quarter ending in May, Pivotal Software expects its results to range from a loss of 6 cents per share to a loss of 5 cents per share.
The company said it expects revenue in the range of $183 million to $185 million for the fiscal first quarter.
Pivotal Software expects full-year results to range from a loss of 15 cents per share to a loss of 13 cents per share, with revenue ranging from $798 million to $806 million.
Pivotal Software shares have risen 37 percent since the beginning of the year.
