Peabody Energy: 3Q Earnings Snapshot
ST LOUIS (AP) _ Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU) on Tuesday reported a third-quarter loss of $82.8 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
The St. Louis-based company said it had a loss of 81 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for asset impairment costs and to account for discontinued operations, came to 57 cents per share.
The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 41 cents per share.
The coal mining company posted revenue of $1.11 billion in the period, which topped Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.1 billion.
Peabody Energy shares have fallen 47% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed 21%. The stock has declined 54% in the last 12 months.
