Paris menswear week: Wednesday's highlights

Paris men's fashion week continued, Wednesday, January 17, with more eagerly awaited shows from the likes of Valentino, Walter Van Beirendonck, Julien David and streetwear specialist Off-White. Designers mostly played with menswear classics, transforming them and deconstructing them to create an original, almost avant-garde wardrobe.

Julien David kicked off this second day of Parisian shows with a comfort-focused collection, with lots of jeans, loose shirts, sweaters, dungarees and tracksuits. Models were engaged in everyday activities (video games, playing cards, working out, music, etc.) and also happened to be wearing dog masks, turning the show into a series of living tableaux.

The eagerly awaited Off-White show didn't disappoint either. While Virgil Abloh stayed true to the codes of streewear, the style of the collection also evolved, creating a more classic wardrobe, playing with aspects like buttoning, stitching and asymmetrical shapes. Lots of pieces featured large, roomy pockets.

In the final show of the day, Valentino turned its attention to sportswear, although in the subtlest of ways. Overall, the collection had a classic vibe, with dark, muted colors, borrowing a few codes and details from the sports world (padded jackets, zips, sweatpants).

Paris menswear week continues Thursday, January 18 with shows from Rick Owens, Louis Vuitton and Dries van Noten.
