Offer submitted, as Arsenal move for primary January target clears another hurdle

Arsenal have moved a step closer to signing a thrilling new weapon after his club submitted an offer for a direct replacement, per a report.

Two positions in Mikel Arteta’s squad have long been expected to be addressed in January. The Gunners are pushing for reinforcements in central midfield, with Leicester’s Youri Tielemans and Palmeiras’ Danilo most frequently linked.

Elsewhere, Arsenal are seeking a ready-made winger to lighten the load on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

That pair have been near-unplayable at times, though Arteta is aware he cannot overburden his young wingers, especially as neither have been afforded a mid-season break due to featuring for their countries in Qatar.

Arsenal’s primary target to tick the second box is believed to be Ukraine stand-out, Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The Shakhtar Donetsk winger, 21, operates primarily on the left wing, though is equally adept at playing on the right.

His primary competition would therefore be Martinelli. However, the Brazilian may find himself playing up front if Gabriel Jesus’ injury is as bad as reports in his homeland are suggesting.

Mudryk has 18 goal contributions in 24 matches this season including five in six in the Champions League.

He had speculatively been valued over the £80m mark back in November, though the Mirror claimed Shakthar have privately made suitors aware £40m is a more realistic sale price. They also declared Arsenal are ‘set to win the race’ in January.

Signs a transfer is expected to go through can come in many forms. For instance, Mudryk has already spoken highly of Arsenal, praising both Mikel Arteta and the way his Gunners side set up.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano previously labelled Mudryk Arteta’s “main priority” in January. However, today has brought a positive sign in an entirely different format.

Shakhtar bid for Mudryk replacement

The Daily Express report Shakhtar are preparing for life after Mudryk and have duly submitted a bid to sign his replacement.

Palmeiras flyer, Kevin Santos Lopes de Macedo – simply known as Kevin – is the man they’ve settled on.

The report doesn’t divulge the finances involved, though other outlets have speculated the bid to be worth around €4m.

Kevin, 19, plays predominantly in Mudryk’s left wing position and has been capped at Brazil Under-20 level.

With Shakhtar now exploring Mudryk replacements and reportedly lodging bids, another step towards seeing the Ukrainian at the Emirates has been taken.
