Mosaic: 4Q Earnings Snapshot

PLYMOUTH, Minn. (AP) _ Mosaic Co. (MOS) on Wednesday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $921 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Plymouth, Minnesota-based company said it had a loss of $2.43 per share. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 29 cents per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 1 cent per share.

The fertilizer maker posted revenue of $2.08 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported a loss of $1.07 billion, or $2.78 per share, swinging to a loss in the period. Revenue was reported as $8.91 billion.

Mosaic shares have dropped 15% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed nearly 5%. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $18.41, a decline of 43% in the last 12 months.
