Microsoft's AI event: Live coverage
Here's what Microsoft is unveiling at its event in Redmond today.
Microsoft's set to make an AI-related announcement today at 1pm ET, but it will not be streaming the keynote to the public. Not to worry, though, we're here at the event in Redmond and will be liveblogging all the news the company is sharing today. After Google unveiled its ChatGPT rival Bard yesterday, Microsoft revealed it had been planning today's event all along, without disclosing many details beyond telling us to expect information about "exciting projects." Thanks to a tweet from OpenAI's Sam Altman, though, we can at least guess that generative AI is on the agenda, if not the star of the show. We'll be starting this liveblog around 12:30pm ET, with myself (Cherlynn Low) on text and our head of video Brian Oh taking pictures. See you soon!
Final update from the event: The Q&A is over and barring Microsoft confirming that there will be no fee to use the new Bing, nothing really stood out. We're off for a lunch break before Microsoft opens the demo area, so come back later! And again, thank you for joining us here today.
For now, that's all from us on this liveblog -- unless anything incredibly newsworthy comes out of the Q&A. I'll post again if that happens, but for now, I'm going to take a breath and digest everything I just saw. I'm cautiously impressed and also borderline hangry. Thanks again for joining us today! Come back soon, we appreciate you.

Which means you should keep an eye on Engadget.com for detailed impressions of what this all actually means. We're having a Q&A session right now with all of today's speakers.
"Welcome to the new Bing and Edge," Mehdi said, before closing the event. Frank Shaw is back to address the media and give us the breakdown of the rest of the schedule for today. We're going to get our hands on the new Bing, Edge and check out some demos.
"In addition, we plan to expand to millions of people in the coming weeks." The company is also launching a mobile version today."
"We're also starting with a select group of folks who will have access to the full experience right away." That includes all of us in the room at the event right now.
"The new Bing is live today for desktop on limited preview." Everyone can try a limited number of queries then sign up for the waitlist to get access to the full experience."
