Michelle Yeoh Mastered Spring Style With a See-Through Turquoise Suit

Easy, breezy, beautiful.

There's no way we're ready for the fashion that's about to come from the Wicked press tour — especially considering the sneak peek we got at Cinemacon yesterday. Michelle Yeoh, who stars in the movie musical alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, showed exactly what a springtime suit can and should be when she walked out onstage wearing a sheer turquoise double-breasted jacket over coordinating wide-leg pants.

The color may have been a nod to her character, Madame Morriblewho is known for her signature aquamarine blue in the stage version of Wicked. For anyone unfamiliar, Morrible is the headmistress of Crage Hall at Shiz University, the school where Grande and Erivo's Glinda/Galinda and Elphaba meet for the first time.

Yeoh's pants weren't completely see-through, but they did include a sheer overlay that swung and swished as she walked. The jacket was made of the same transparent, gauzy fabric in a double-breasted silhouette with wide lapels and oversized buttons. She wore a black bra underneath and finished the look with platform shoes and diamond jewelry by Anita Ko.

Yeoh's co-stars Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, and Ethan Slater were also onstage in Las Vegas alongside Grande and Erivo, plus director Jon M. Chu (whom Yeoh worked with previously on 2018's Crazy Rich Asians). For their part, the two top-billed songstresses wore on-theme clothes, too, with Grande choosing a blooming pink-and-white 3D floral dress from Oscar de la Renta and Erivo in an Elphaba-green top, silver miniskirt, and over-the-knee emerald platform boots from Versace.

“We dreamed very, very, very big for Wicked,” Chu said of adapting the film from the Broadway production. “A magical land of sights and sounds that will astonish and performances that will lift your spirits and occasionally break your heart.”

“This whole experience is absolutely impossible to put into words,” Grande added before sharing that since she'd seen the show at age 10, she dreamed of playing Glinda. Speaking about working with Erivo, Grande said that they both felt a duty to respect their respective roles.

"We both felt such a tremendous responsibility to honor these women and to pour our hearts, our souls, our tears — so many different pairs of lashes," she said.
