Merck’s $2.3B deal, Costco disappoints, CBS settles retaliation claim

Here are some of the companies the Yahoo Finance team is watching for you today.

A big deal for Merck. The pharma giant is buying Antelliq for more than $2B. The company specializes in animal tracking for farmers and pet owners and will become part of Merck's animal health division.

Costco delivered a disappointing quarter. The retailer fell short on revenue and earnings, though profits were up from a year ago. The CFO says its seeing a significant boost from tax savings, but merchandise costs are also rising and outpacing sales growth.

More controversy for CBS. The broadcaster paid $9.5M to settle retaliation claims by the actress Eliza Dushku. She had said she was belittled on the set of the show "Bull" and written off when she complained. CBS says it remains committed to a quote "safe, inclusive and respectful workplace."

One of the biggest names in luxury goods is taking a bigger bite out of the hotel market. LVMH is buying the Belmond hotel chain for some $3.2B. LVMH’s CEO says the chain "resonates well" with the company's values. Louis Vuitton already owns the luxury Bvlgari hotels.
