Marvel's Cate Blanchett got a head injury in chainsaw accident

From Digital Spy

Marvel Cinematic Universe star Cate Blanchett is "fine" after escaping an encounter with a chainsaw.

Though the two-time Academy Award winner may have had the power to destroy Asgard as the death goddess Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, she wasn't quite as lucky when she faced off with a power tool.

Cate was discussing life in lockdown with her four children during an appearance on A Podcast of One's Own with former New Zealand PM Julia Gillard, when she revealed she'd suffered an injury.

"I had a bit of a chainsaw accident yesterday, which sounds very, very exciting, but it wasn't," she insisted, adding: "Apart from the little nick to my head, we're fine."

Former Prime Minister Gillard echoed the sentiments of all of us when she encouraged Cate to be more careful with the power tools — for all of our sakes.

"Be very careful with that chainsaw. You've got a very famous head," Gillard joked. "I don't think they will want to see any nicks taken out of it."

And right the politician is, since Cate has just signed up to star in two major Hollywood blockbusters in the last month.

The Australian actress has just inked a deal to co-star with Jennifer Lawrence in Vice director Adam McKay's Netflix movie Don't Look Up as two amateur astronomers setting out to warn the world of an impending asteroid strike.

Cate has also lined up the leading role in the long-awaited Borderlands movie – directed by Eli Roth – as the cosmic siren Lilith.

"I'm so lucky to have the amazing Cate Blanchett starring in Borderlands," Roth said when she landed the role (via Variety). "We had the most incredible collaboration together on The House with a Clock in Its Walls, and I believe there's nothing she can't do.

"From drama to comedy and now action, Cate makes every scene sing. Working with her is truly a director's dream come true, and I feel so fortunate that I get to do it again on an even bigger scale.

"Everyone brings their A-game to work with Cate, and I know together we're going to create another iconic character in her already-storied career."
