Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Anthony Mackie and Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu's new Amazon Prime Video series now has a release date – and it will be with us pretty soon.

Amazon has confirmed that its new Amazon Original anthology series Solos, which features a very well-known cast, will premiere on May 21, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

The seven-part anthology series will star Marvel actor Mackie and Hustlers actress Wu alongside no fewer than three Academy Award winners in the form of Dame Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and Anne Hathaway.

Amazon has described the series, which was created by Hunters creator David Weil, as an exploration of "the strange, beautiful, heart-breaking, hilarious, wondrous truths of what it means to be human".

"The series spans our present and future and illuminates that even during our most isolated moments we are all connected through the human experience," Solos' synopsis reads.

"These character-driven stories contend that even during our most seemingly isolated moments, in the most disparate of circumstances, we are all connected through the human experience."

Weil is also directing three episodes of the series, marking his directorial debut. Two episodes of the series are helmed by Fifty Shades of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson, while the other two are directed by Scrubs star Zach Braff and by Girls Room director Tiffany Johnson respectively.

We don't yet know a huge amount about the storylines or the characters but the series sounds suitably epic and intriguing, not to mention star-studded.

Weil has previously said that he is "beyond thrilled" to have worked on Solos, saying: "I created this piece with a desire to capture stories about connection, hope and the search for that common hum of humanity that binds us all."

Solos will premiere on May 21 on Amazon Prime Video.
