Man City to sell Erling Haaland ‘sooner rather than later’ as Pep Guardiola settles on more suitable replacement
Erling Haaland was not a Pep Guardiola signing for Manchester City, according to a report that has claimed they will sell him “sooner rather than later”.
Man City won the race for Haaland last summer, bringing him in from Borussia Dortmund. His scoring record since has been sensational. So far, Haaland has scored 42 goals from 37 appearances for the club.
However, Man City are at serious risk of relinquishing their Premier League title this season. There have subsequently been questions about whether Haaland is the right fit for them and vice versa in the bigger picture.
A release clause will allow other clubs to buy Haaland from Man City for €200million next summer. In the time being, Guardiola will have to work out how to find the right balance with him in the team.
According to a fresh report from Football Transfers, though, Haaland was never a Guardiola signing. Instead, it was Txiki Begiristain behind bringing the Norway international to the Etihad Stadium.
And it is claimed that Guardiola already isn’t planning for the long term with Haaland. In fact, they could sell him “sooner rather than later” – to Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants have been looking at Haaland for a while – and understandably so. They seem to represent the most natural next step for Haaland as long as he remains a priority.
As and when Haaland makes that move – or any other exit from Man City, who will value him at £240m, it is said – the club already have an idea of how to replace him.
Youssoufa Moukoko chosen as Erling Haaland replacement
The report suggests that they want to raid Borussia Dortmund again, this time to get hold of Youssoufa Moukoko.
Moukoko is currently enjoying the busiest season of his blossoming career to date, although he is currently out injured. Until his absence began, he had scored six goals from 26 appearances.
Those tallies are far from what Haaland has been recording, but at the age of 18, Moukoko still has plenty of time to develop further.
According to Football Transfers, Guardiola believes Moukoko would be more like former Man City strikers Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus than Haaland. Hence, he might be someone who can fit well into Guardiola’s tactics.
Although saying Haaland’s exit might be more imminent than expected, the report does also concede that this could actually take a few years to materialise.
Likewise, TEAMtalk understands Haaland’s proposed move to Real Madrid isn’t something to expect this summer by any means.
We were recently told that only astronomical offers would convince Man City to let him go after just one season.
Therefore, Haaland is likely to continue leading the line for Guardiola’s side for now. In the long term, though, Moukoko might be one to keep an eye on.
