How major US stock indexes fared Monday

After a wobbly day of trading, U.S. stocks fell for the seventh time in eight days Monday as technology companies continued to slide

After a wobbly day of trading, U.S. stocks fell for the seventh time in eight days Monday as technology companies continued to slide. Industrial and high-dividend companies rose, and the market's losses were limited compared to its plunge last week.

On Monday:

The S&P 500 index sank 16.34 points, or 0.6 percent, to 2,750.79.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 89.44 points, or 0.4 percent, to 25,250.55.

The Nasdaq composite shed 66.15 points, or 0.9 percent, to 7,430.74.

The Russell 2000 index of smaller-company stocks gained 6.42 points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,553.09.

For the year:

The S&P 500 is up 77.18 points, or 2.9 percent.

The Dow is up 531.33 points, or 2.1 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 527.35 points, or 7.6 percent.

The Russell 2000 is up 17.58 points, or 1.1 percent.
