Lost actor Matthew Fox is returning to TV after 11 years away.
Widely recognised for his main role as Jack Shephard in the hit US drama, Variety confirmed that he's snapped up a part in a five-episode thriller titled Last Light.
Jack Ryan director Dennie Gordon will call the shots, whilst Downton Abbey's Golden Globe-winning star Joanne Froggatt is also on the cast list.
John Zinman and Patrick Massett co-wrote the miniseries and serve as Last Light's showrunners and executive producers.
Production is scheduled to kick off next week, with the action itself planted firmly in the dystopia genre.
The narrative follows a family whose lives forever alter when oil supplies are contaminated by an infectious agent, causing society to implode in the face of global disaster.
"Last Light is the perfect combination of an action-packed limited series with a compelling family drama at its heart," commented NBCUniversal Television and Streaming's scripted content president Lisa Katz.
"Led by fan-favourites Matthew Fox and Joanne Froggatt, this sweeping international saga spans several continents that provide a stunning global backdrop, yet is grounded in a relatable and topical story. We can't wait to share this with Peacock audiences."
MGM International TV Productions' president Rola Bauer had this to say of the project: "This is a timely thriller about society's dependency on oil and its devastating effects on our planet.
"Dennie is a multi-genre talented female director and her vision with Patrick and John, has shaped an urgent message for our audiences. We started this journey with Sydney [Gallonde] and now with all our platform partners involved, we are poised to have this message heard in every corner of the globe."
