Liverpool vs Real Madrid LIVE: Champions League result and reaction tonight

Liverpool take on Real Madrid at Anfield this evening in the second leg of the clubs’ Champions League quarter-final tie.

Liverpool are no strangers to pulling off comebacks in Europe. In recent years, the Reds have come from behind – against the odds – to eliminate Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona on the European stage, so overturning the 3-1 lead held by Real Madrid in this quarter-final need not be a daunting prospect. That said, Jurgen Klopp’s side must be at their best if they are to earn the kind of result to progress at the expense of the La Liga champions, who earned a Clasico victory over rivals Barcelona at the weekend.

Liverpool lacked their usual pressing in the reverse fixture in the Spanish capital and were picked apart, with Vinicius Jr scoring twice and Marco Asensio also netting for Zinedine Zidane’s team. Mohamed Salah grabbed what could prove to be a crucial away goal, however, as Liverpool fell to Madrid by the same scoreline from the teams’ clash in the 2018 final. A semi-final meeting with Chelsea awaits the victors of this tie, with the Blues having overcome Porto 2-1 over two legs, while tonight’s other quarter-final second leg sees Man City visit Borussia Dortmund.
