If a trip to Lapland's Ice Hotel is on your bucket list, then now is the time to book because the iconic institution has opened its doors for just 12 weeks before it melts away again.

A total of 34 artists from 13 countries have spent an intense couple of months in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, creating the 29th annual incarnation of the ephemeral hotel that is entirely made out of 2,500 tonnes of ice and snow from the free-flowing Torne River.

And it's seriously special. 'Snice', a mixture of snow and ice, was used to create the main building. Some 30,000 cubic metres are used for the floors, ceilings and walls – that's the equivalent of 110 million ice lollies.

There's chandeliers handcrafted from 1,000 ice crystals, along with an ice bar, an ice ceremony hall and an exciting new chef’s table dining experience.

The suites will also leave guests speechless.

'The Living Ocean Suite' is from British father and daughter duo, Jonathan Paul and Marnie Green. The design depicts an eerie underwater world inspired by the negative effects of climate change and overfishing, complete with ice-carved corals, shells and fish.

There's also 'Spruce Woods', which allows guests to sit around a 'fire' made from ice in a forest camping site adjacent to a vintage VW camper. 'Lollipop' is a sweet shop, while 'Flock' features a magical portal of ice guarded by the clever fox and fiery phoenix.

Other incredibly intricate designs include the icy Aurora Borealis and a room bursting with frozen flower blossom.

Building the seasonal hotel requires a large amount of work, beginning in March each year when 2,500 tons of ice is harvested from the Torne River. The ice is then stored until October, when the building starts.
