Jordan Brand rings in the Year of the Rat with 3 new kicks

Celebrating Chinese New Year has become a yearly tradition for Nike’s (NKE) Jordan brand, and in 2020 the Jumpman is releasing three sneakers to ring in the Year of the Rat.

What would a Jordan collection be without a pair of 1s? For the Year of the Rat, the first shoe in the Jordan signature series features a kite, bamboo, fireworks, and traditional Chinese patchwork called Bai Jia Yi. Nike has yet to announce when they’ll be released, but they are definitely the most exclusive kicks of the collection, with only 5,000 pairs slated for release at $130 a pair — and only in China.

The 13th signature shoe in the Jordan collection gets a suede makeover to celebrate Chinese New Year. The upper is embossed with the pattern of a traditional Chinese coin, and the right shoe’s insole sports the same design. Pink accents wrap around the sole of the shoe. In a nod to the yin and yang, the Jumpman logo on the tongue is featured in black and white. The Air Jordan XIII Retro “Chinese New Year” retails for $200.

Worn by NBA rookie sensation Zion Williamson, the latest shoe in the Jordan signature series also got some Chinese New Year treatment. The AJ 34 sports a translucent upper that features the same coin-design on the Jordan 13 model. The tongue has black and silver accents, as does the shoe’s medial side. A pink heel tab pops on the black and white shoe. The Air Jordan XXXIV “Chinese New Year” retails for $180.
