Jeff Bridges has told fans he feels “elated” after discovering that his tumour has “drastically shrunk”.

The Big Lebowski star, 71, was diagnosed with lymphoma last year and has been sharing his progress with his followers on social media.

In his latest post on his website, the Hollywood star said tests have shown that his treatment is working “beautifully”.

“I come home elated with the news.”

However, Bridges went on to say that when he got home after hearing the news he was heartbroken to see the rioting at the US Capitol.

He said: “I turn on the TV to find out what’s going on in the world, and… well… I don’t have to tell you what’s going on.

“To see our country attacking itself broke my heart.

“A question rose in me – what’s an individual to do in a situation like this? My mentor Rozzell Sykes came to mind. His manta (sic) was ‘Be love’.”

The star revealed in October that he had been diagnosed with the illness, telling fans at the time that his prognosis was “good”.

Referencing his Big Lebowski character, he wrote: “As the Dude would say... New S**T has come to light.
