Yahoo Finance Jameela Jamil's response to Khloé Kardashian's photo leak has totally divided people
Jameela Jamil has become the epicentre of debate surrounding the recent leaked photo of Khloé Kardashian in a bikini. In case you're not all caught up, the picture was accidentally shared on social media without permission, and people quickly began re-sharing it, saying that Khloé looked more 'candid' than in the images we usually see of her. Many suggested that the photo had no editing or airbrushing.
It was later reported that Khloé's team were attempting to get the picture removed from social media, with Tracy Romulus, the chief marketing officer for KKW Brands, telling Page Six that "it is within the right of the copyright owner to want an image not intended to be published taken down."
Responding to the leak, Khloé released a statement sharing her thoughts on why she wasn't keen to have the photo spread online
"Hey guys, this is me and my body unretouched and unfiltered. The photo that was posted this week is beautiful. But as someone who has struggled with body image her whole life, when someone takes a photo of you that isn’t flattering in bad lighting or doesn’t capture your body the way it is after working so hard to get it to this point — and then shares it to the world — you should have every right to ask for it to not be shared — regardless of who you are," she said.
In a series of lengthy paragraphs, Khloé shared how constant scrutiny over her appearance has been "too much to bear." She admitted she had taken on external criticism about her body as her own beliefs, and ended the statement by saying;
"For those else who feel the constant pressure of not ever feeling perfect enough, I want you to know I see you and I understand. Every day, I am told by my family and friends who love me that I am beautiful, but I know that it needs to be believed from within. Just do you and make sure your heart is happy."

In response, body positivity activist and actress Jameela Jamil - who has long been vocal about her distaste for 'diet culture' and has frequently been critical of the Kardashian sisters for this - took to Twitter to share her thoughts. And it's safe to say her perspective has divided people.
Replying to Khloé's post, Jameela wrote: "I’m extremely sorry for what we all watched happen to you over the past decade. It’s so unacceptable. Now would be a great time to throw diet culture in the fuck it bucket, stop editing photos, admit to the help you get to look how you do, and be transparent with your fans."
While some followers appreciated the sentiment - one commented, "Exactly! I have empathy for [Khloé] but where is their empathy for all the girls and women who are still striving to look like filtered, photoshopped, MUA faced perfected images" - others felt it was hypocritical.
"You’ve just completely contradicted your apology," wrote one follower. "ILY but this feels like another judgement," said another.
Addressing people's concerns, Jameela Jamil replied with further insistence on her point. "Calling for accountability for better treatment of the women that look up to them, from a fellow woman, isn’t judgement. It’s just facts and belief someone can do better, for themselves, and for others," she posted.

Whatever side you fall on, it's clear this incident and Khloé's openness in her response has triggered conversation that may well prove productive in reminding people of what's real and what isn't when determining their own body image.
