The Jonathan Ross Show guest Sheridan Smith was allegedly left upset backstage following her appearance this week.

Appearing alongside Oscar nominee Riz Ahmed, music icon Sting and Take That's Gary Barlow on the chatshow to promote her new festive song 'How Christmas Is Supposed to Be', which was broadcast on November 27, the actress seemed in good spirits on screen.

However, The Sun reports she was displeased by a 'chauvinistic' atmosphere and made her feelings known later on.

A representative for Jonathan Ross told the publication: "Sheridan seemed to have a great time on the show but appeared to become upset afterwards.

"Jonathan asked her if she was OK and she said, 'Don't worry, it's not you'. So Jonathan assumed it was a personal matter between Sheridan and the group of people she'd come with. We will investigate immediately. I hope Sheridan knows we would never take a claim of this kind lightly."

Meanwhile, ITV said in a statement: "When booking the show, we are always keen to ensure we are diverse and inclusive to all. We treat our guests with courtesy and respect at all times."

Digital Spy has reached out to Sheridan's reps for further comment.

During Sheridan's time in front of the cameras, she openly discussed her approach to pet-handling as an adult.

"When I was younger, we grew up very working-class and I begged my mum and dad to let me have animals and they were like 'No!'... Now I have a son who is 17 months old and I think I wanted him to grow up around animals," she told the host.

She's now the owner of six donkeys and dogs.

The Jonathan Ross Show airs Saturday nights on ITV.
