Italy's Bending Spoons scoops up social media platform Meetup
MILANO, Jan 24 (Reuters) - Italian app developer Bending Spoons said on Wednesday it had finalised the acquisition of Meetup, a social network with 60 million members worldwide used to organise in-person and virtual events and gatherings.
"We will leverage our platform to ensure that Meetup grows even stronger in the years to come," Bending Spoons co-founder and Chief Executive Luca Ferrari said in a press release.
Ferrari had signalled the acquisition in a post on the Meetup platform earlier this month. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
A group of investors led by AlleyCorp bought Meetup from shared-office operator WeWork in 2020.
It is the second deal announced by Bending Spoons this month. Earlier in January it agreed to buy the digital assets of Mosaic Group, a mobile software subsidiary of IAC. (Reporting by Elisa Anzolin Editing by Keith Weir)
