Apple's iPhone X was available for pre-orders on Friday - Apple

Apple's top-tier iPhone X launched for pre-orders on Friday, heralding the arrival of the £1,000 smartphone with an all-screen design, wireless charging and facial identification.

The top-of-the-range iPhone X costs between £999 and £1,149 and with such a high price tag, users will be after the best rates on the new phones when they arrive in the UK.

But supply is tight for the new phone, with many pre-orders not expected to arrive for five to six weeks. Users can also expect to pay more than £50 per month on many iPhone X deals, with some deals trying to offer the flagship phone for more than £80 per month.

The iPhone X is set to be one of the most expensive handsets ever made, so don't expect too much in the way of deals and discounts on the day it goes on sale. It is set to be available on the main networks, but most of the smaller mobile phone providers have yet to advertise their prices.

The best offer we have found for the price conscious is from Vodafone, which has a two year contract totaling £1,688 over two years. The most expensive deal so far is with Three, who have even been flogging the 256GB handset with unlimited data for £117 per month.

Apple's upgrade plan

Apple's upgrade programme allows you to pay a flat monthly fee to get your hands on the new iPhone every year when it comes out. Members pay £69 upfront and then a flat monthly fee spread over 20 months, although you can pay to upgrade after 11 - when a new iPhone launches. You also get AppleCare+ thrown in.

This means if you upgraded the 64GB iPhone X after 11 months you would have paid £689.95 with the upgrade plan, rather than the £999 for the whole handset. You can also choose which network to use your iPhone with, so you are not tied into a two year deal.
