India road transport minister urges carmakers to set up scrapping centres
NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India's Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari urged carmakers on Tuesday to set up vehicle scrapping centres to get polluting vehicles off the roads, adding that the move could boost sales of vehicles by 18-20%.
Gadkari told the annual convention of industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) that the government is targeting setting up 20,000 compressed natural gas or CNG stations by 2030 to refuel gas-based vehicles.
