Ilyka is proud of straight-As daughter

·2-min read

11 Jun – Datin Seri Zuraila Mohamed Yassin, or most known for her stage name Ilyka, is elated that her only daughter Arisya Ahmad Azizi achieved an excellent result in her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

The '90s singer, who was popular for her song, "Diusung Duka", shared the good news on social media with a photo of Arisya, writing, "Congratulations [Arisya]", and revealed to Berita Harian that her daughter did very well getting 9As despite sitting for her exams during the pandemic.

"Last year was quite challenging for all, including SPM candidates and parents. The kids needed to continue their studies online and practice the Teaching and Learning at Home method," she said. "At one time, my daughter, who was studying at a college in Negeri Sembilan, had to go home when the cases of COVID-19 increased. She even wasn't allowed to see us for three months at one point as the school did not allow parents to visit."

Nonetheless, Ilyka stated that both she and the whole family abided by the instructions of the Ministry of Health and the National Security Council, no matter how tough it was not to see their daughter.

The former singer also sang praises for the teachers of Arisya's school, saying that they have worked hard for the students to ensure that their education would continue despite the hardships.

"The teachers' sacrifice means a lot to my daughter's success, so does the moral support from her parents," she added.

As to what Arisya's future plans are, Ilyka stated that her daughter would like to continue her studies in either Law or Pharmacy overseas.

"As a mother, I will support whatever it is that she wants and plans to do. Today's children know better what they want," she added.
