IKEA giving back for Christmas

By Romesh Navaratnarajah: To celebrate the Christmas spirit, home furnishing retailer IKEA has launched its annual Soft Toy Campaign with proceeds going to children's charities. The project is co-organised with Mediacorp and Singapore Press Holdings (SPH).

For an event scheduled on 2 December, a total of 10 Soft Toy Christmas Trees decorated by MediaCorp Radio DJs and the editorial teams from Singapore Women's Weekly, CLEO, Home & Décor, TODAY and Her World Online will be auctioned off.

Bids will start at S$100 and the proceeds will go to the Singapore Children's Society (SCS) and its '1000 Enterprise for Children-in-Need' project.

IKEA will also donate S$1.50 for each soft toy purchased at its stores till 29 December, to help fund worldwide education programmes supported by Save the Children and UNICEF.

"This year, the Soft Toy Campaign is made even more special as we try to raise funds closer to home, for our local community. We want to help people help themselves to a better everyday life, turning the cycle of poverty into a circle of unlimited possibilities," said IKEA's Regional Marketing Manager Irene Lau.
