Whether you're a seasoned gardener focused on technique and expertise, or a green-fingered novice set on fun, feel-good gardening, the nation's appetite for this favourite pastime is continuing to soar. But how exactly?

We're breaking the boundaries of traditional borders with a more relaxed approach to mixed planting; there's a shift towards greener, more sustainable lifestyles; we're caring for bees and butterflies by planting for wildlife; city gardeners are taking the 'Grow Your Own' trend in new directions by transforming hanging baskets and containers into miniature veg patches; we're embracing the physical and mental benefits of outdoor projects; and we're making the most of outdoor living by turning our gardens into the fifth room.

Help us uncover the key trends shaping our gardens – and the way we garden – by taking House Beautiful's Big Gardening Poll. We'd love to know exactly how you use your outdoor space, however big or small. Ready to tell us your gardening habits? There are five sections to explore: The Gardener, Grow Your Own, Sustainable Gardening, Outdoor Living, and Indoor Gardening.

Whether you garden on a balcony, in a small plot or you have the luxury of space, today's gardeners are breaking the boundaries with how and where they grow their plants.

From carrots to tomatoes, growing your own fresh, tasty, organic produce is extremely rewarding and cost-effective – and it's increasing in popularity.

Eco-conscious gardeners seek a more sustainable, environmentally friendly way to garden, with greater consideration for wildlife and the dangers it faces.

We sought refuge in the calming surrounds of our gardens throughout the pandemic last year. From garden sofas to rugs and lanterns to fire pits, lockdown saw many of us recreate our living room outdoors (aka the fifth room) for a cosy garden setting, with separate zones to dine, entertain and relax.

Not everyone has a garden but the UK's houseplant obsession is continuing to grow. As far as plant parenthood is concerned, a recent survey revealed that 15 per cent of respondents have names for all of their plants, and plant playlists are a thing too, with Spotify reporting an almost 1,400 per cent uplift in streams for its 'Music for Plants' playlist in the last 12 months. But how do you fare?
