Hollyoaks star Sarah Jayne Dunn addresses Ollie Morgan recast

From Digital Spy

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Sarah Jayne Dunn has spoken out about the recasting of Ollie Morgan.

Aedan Duckworth made his final on-screen appearance as Ollie last month, featuring in scenes that were filmed in March before the UK lockdown.

Scenes shot more recently showed Ollie's loved ones grow concerned after he left the village abruptly in an off-screen exit, leaving a note behind to explain his departure.

An announcement over who'll now be playing Ollie moving forwards is expected at a later date, but Sarah – who plays Mandy – has confirmed that she has already been filming scenes with the new actor.

Speaking exclusively on Digital Spy's Soap Scoop podcast, Sarah said: "I've worked with him. He's brilliant, he's lovely. He's been thrown straight in at the deep end.

"Ollie is such a big character and such an important character to Mandy as well, so it's exciting."

Ollie's presence on screen is particularly important in the coming months, as Hollyoaks' flashforward episode last year showed him in the village in scenes set on December 31, 2020.

However, that's not the only challenge Hollyoaks bosses have faced this year, as the UK lockdown has unsurprisingly impacted the stories leading up to that much-anticipated date.

"I think the audience will be quite forgiving of every show at the moment," Sarah explained.

"Everyone knows what we've been through and what we're still going through. I think it still really works, and it's made it slightly more interesting actually because of the way it's had to be told now."

New episodes of Digital Spy's Soap Scoop podcast drop every Friday at 8am and are available on all major platforms, including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes from Monday to Thursday at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4. Classic episodes, titled Hollyoaks Favourites, air on Fridays at 7pm on E4.
