Google — and its new parent company Alphabet — love their engineers.

So it’s not much of a surprise that engineers top the list of Google’s highest-paying positions. 

But there’s a lot more to running Google than just programming. And Google is willing to pay top dollar for the best candidates, regardless of the field, according to annual salary data we pulled from Glassdoor.

Salary data on Glassdoor is an average based on anonymous reports that were voluntarily shared by both current and recent employees. 

Note: All figures refer to base salaries and do not include bonuses. Salaries also vary based on experience. We also didn’t include some redundant or mislabeled entries on the list.

20. Staff hardware engineer

Salary: $183,948

As Google moves to build more stuff like the new OnHub router, Nexus phones and tablets, and other hardware goodies, it needs to pay a competitive salary to attract the best. 

19. Technical program manager IV

Salary: $188,229

Google’s technical program managers are tasked with ushering projects through their entire life cycle, which includes managing project schedules, identifying any risks involved, and communicating project goals to stakeholders.

 

18.Corporate counsel

Salary: $189,262

Corporate counsels are lawyers who usually advise companies on legal matters in and out of the courtroom.

17. Senior sales strategy manager

Salary: $190.727

With Google’s advertising focus, it’s important to have experts in charge of figuring out the best ways to sell to customers. That’s where a senior sales strategy manager comes in. 

16. Communications manager

Salary: $190,846

When you’re as large as Google, it’s especially important to make sure the company’s mission and statements are as clear and well-stated as possible. That’s why the communications manager position is among Google’s most well-compensated opportunities.

 

15. Engineering manager II

Salary: $191,552

Oftentimes, engineers create the foundation that supports Google’s most important products. An engineering manager would be in charge of supervising teams of engineers to develop, test, and create new products.

 

14. Staff user experience designer

Salary: $191,881

Designing the user experience behind a product is one of the most important jobs at any tech company, which is why Google is willing to pay top dollar for great designers. User experience designers are essentially tasked with making sure Google’s products look nice and are easy to use.

 

 

13. Senior sales manager

Salary: $193,680

Advertising is still Google’s bread and butter, and so it’s incredibly vital that the company groom or hire top-tier sales talent.

12. Senior online sales and operations manager

Salary: $192,915

This role involves overseeing Google’s online sales strategies and revenue growth. And, at a company like Google where all of its services are based online, it’s certainly an important role.

 

11. Site reliability engineer

Salary: $193,423

As the title implies, staff site reliability engineers must be crafty troubleshooters. When hiring for this job, Google will be looking to see whether or not you can fix issues with its services and if your web design skills are up to snuff, according to this Glassdoor post from a candidate that applied for the job.

 

10. Senior product manager

Salary: $197,252

An experienced product manager is a great asset to Google: They help lead engineering teams towards a common goal, even in widely-dispersed offices.

9. Staff software engineer

Salary: $201,565

Engineers at Google need to be excellent at solving complex problems. This is why the company is known for challenging job candidates with puzzling brain teasers. But, based on Glassdoor’s data, it seems like they compensate these employees well. Google’s salary for this position is 60% higher than the national average, according to Glassdoor.

 

8. Lead software engineer

Salary: $207,211

A lead software engineer is generally responsible for the underlying architecture of a given program. Since “lead” indicates this is a senior role, a lead software engineer is also likely responsible for managing other members of the team too.

 

7. Senior staff software engineer

Salary: $210,462

Google’s senior software engineers are among the highest paid employees at the company. These engineers are expected to take the technical lead in whichever department they work in, whether that be YouTube, AdWords, or any other division of the company.

 

Senior software engineering manager

Salary: $235,772

A Google Senior Software Engineering manager is a highly-in-demand, more experienced programming pro who’s in charge of leading teams of coders under them.

4. Group product manager

Salary: $243,299

Product managers are the nexus point for every Google project. They interact with sales, software engineers, marketing managers, and just about every other piece of a project.

Some of Google’s best products could not get off the ground without a good product manager.

3. Business operations principal

Salary: $252,423

This type of role would require you to manage projects commissioned by Google’s executive team. You’d work with the company’s senior leadership to develop and launch operational initiatives, according to a Google job listing. It requires 6 years of experience.

Marketing Director

Salary: $268.936

A Google Marketing Director’s job is to make sure the public knows about everything the search advertising giant has to offer. That can include anything from writing blogs to approving TV commercials.

2. Engineering director

Salary: $272,370

As its name implies, an engineering director oversees all aspects of engineering within a company. This type of job could require up to 10 years of experience, according to career building website Monster.

 

1. Finance director

Salary: $339,825

This is one of the highest-paying jobs you can get at Google, according to Glassdoor. A finance director typically manages all financial tasks for a company, which could include maintaining financial statements and making sure all departments are complying with the company’s financial policies.
