Yahoo Finance Harry’s house: Harry Styles fans take refuge in Amsterdam concert hall amid Dutch trains chaos
Harry Styles fans found themselves stranded in Amsterdam on Sunday night as an IT glitch crippled train services in the Netherlands.
Hundreds sought refuge at the Ziggo Dome concert hall as they were unable to return home following the pop superstar’s show at the nearby Johan Cruijff Arena.
The computer outage hit the country’s rail network 6pm local time (5pm BST) on Sunday afternoon and crippled train services until this morning.
The outage made it impossible for domestic and international trains to reach Amsterdam Central Station and cut off all rail traffic to and from Schiphol airport, one of Europe’s busiest hubs.
It left hundreds of passengers stranded overnight in Amsterdam and at the country’s largest train station in Utrecht, Dutch news agency ANP said.
National railway company NS said the outage has been having a “big impact” in Amsterdam and in parts of the country.
Later NS said it had resolved the problem and with trains beginning to operate slowly again from 8am BST.
It comes after it was revealed that Eurostar services between London and Amsterdam will be cancelled for a year from June 2024 while the Dutch city’s central station undergoes major engineering work.
Officials said the service would not restart until May 2025 at the earliest.
A spokesman for Eurostar told Dutch media: “We have calculated that without these trains, 21 more aircraft would have to fly from Schiphol every day.”
