It sounds like The Good Place star D'Arcy Carden is hitting a home run with the reboot of A League of Their Own.

Carden recently filmed the pilot episode for an Amazon Prime Video reimagining of the classic 1992 sports drama about the short-lived All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during World War II.

Amazon liked the new version so much that it handed out a full commission for a first season to Broad City's Abbi Jacobson and Mozart in the Jungle writer Will Graham, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The duo announced on Thursday (August 6): "Twenty-eight years ago, Penny Marshall told us a story about women playing professional baseball that up until then had been largely overlooked. We grew up obsessed with the film, like everyone else.

"Three years ago, we approached Sony with the idea of telling a new, still overlooked set of those stories. With the help of an enormously talented team of collaborators, an amazing cast, and the devoted support of Amazon to this project, we feel beyond lucky and excited to get to bring these characters to life.

"It took grit, fire, authenticity, wild imagination and a crackling sense of humor for these players to achieve their dreams. We’re hoping to bring audiences a story with all of those qualities."

Jacobson and Graham's version of ALOTO has featured members of the real league as consultants, and will also delve into race and sexuality in more depth than the original Penny Marshall film.

Alongside Carden and Jacobson, the cast of A League of Their Own will include Chanté Adams (The Photograph), Gbemisola Ikumelo (Sex Education), Roberta Colindrez (The Deuce), Priscilla Delgado (The Protected) and Kelly McCormac (Killjoy).

"There's no crying in baseball, or at Prime Video,” Amazon's co-head of TV, Vernon Sanders, has joked. “Will and Abbi have taken a classic movie, reimagining it for a new generation with new characters and their own fresh, modern vision on a timeless story of big dreams, friendship, love, and, of course, baseball.

"We're so excited to partner with Sony to bring this emotional, exciting new series to our Prime Video customers around the world.”

There is no timeline yet for when A League of Their Own will premiere on Amazon Prime Video. The original 1992 film featured an all-star cast, including Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell.
