Fortnite Season 5 Chapter 2 adds The Mandalorian and player bounties

Fortnite just got a lot more Star Warsy. The Mandalorian has been added to the game, as well as his trade of collecting bounties.

If you’re reading this, then you already know Fortnite is an absurdly popular battle royale game. It’s the title that made Tyler “Ninja” Blevins one of the most visible gamers in mainstream culture. The game’s Galactus event was attended by a whopping 15.3 million players — who were all playing at the same time.

And it even has a story.

In Season 5 Chapter 2, The Zero Point (also referred to as the Nexus) which was foreshadowed in past seasons is now a focal point on the island. It’s also a convenient storytelling device to introduce all sorts of features such as new environments, collaborations with different franchises and even real-world artists.

For the past few seasons, Fortnite has kept players hooked by interweaving the game with these crossovers. Travis Scott has hosted a concert in the game and BTS premiered a music video on it.

Season 4’s superhero theme was a tie-in with the Marvel Universe and ended with an epic fight against Galactus, the massive cosmic supervillain who must consume entire worlds to sate his endless hunger.

This time around, the theme is bounty hunters. Characters like the Mandalorian (and his little green ward, Grogu), Kratos and other famous “hunters” have been thrown into the Fortnite world as they seek to escape something called “The Loop.” It’s up to the players to help Jonesy, one of Fortnite’s poster characters, to fix this mess.

It also introduces a new mechanic called bounties. You’ll be able to take on contracts to track down and eliminate specific players in your lobby for special rewards.

There are also new weapons to wield, which include the Mandalorian’s trademark Amban sniper rifle. You know, that thing he used to vaporize the Jawas who screwed him over while Grogu watched in fascination.

So much for no disintegrations. You can read about all the changes here.

You’ll need the season pass to participate, of course. That can be purchased with V-Bucks which can be bought with actual cash or earned in-game.

Happy hunting!
