The first batch of flats in Tengah’s second district, known as the Garden District, will be launched for sale in this month’s Build-to-Order (BTO) exercise, reported Channel News Asia citing the Housing and Development Board (HDB).

Located near the future Jurong Innovation District, Garden District will offer up to 6,500 new homes once fully completed, while boasting water features and greenery, which is in line with Tengah’s nature concept.

HDB noted that a key feature in the district is a greenway that meanders through the housing blocks.

“With recreational, social and communal facilities lining both sides, the farmway will serve as a green recreational corridor linking the precincts in Garden District together,” it said.

The district will also feature six thematic playgrounds inspired by motifs or nature such as garden creatures and flowers.

To promote walking and cycling, all roads within the district will come with 2m-wide dedicated cycling paths and 1.5m-wide pedestrian paths.

Garden District will also be served by an MRT station on the upcoming Jurong Region Line.

Meanwhile, the entire Tengah new town, which is about the size of Bishan, will house around 42,000 new flats.

The government announced plans to redevelop the former military training area in 2016, while the first flats in the town’s first district – Plantation District – were offered for sale in November 2018.

For this month’s BTO exercise, over 2,000 flats will be launched for sale, which ranges from two-room Flexi flats to five-room flats, said HDB. Aside from the Garden District flats, more units in Plantation District will also be offered for sale.
