Fiserv (FISV) is scheduled to report its 1Q16 earnings on May 5. Wall Street analysts (SPY)(QQQ) surveyed by Bloomberg expect it to report earnings per share (or EPS) of $1.02 for 1Q16 compared to $0.89 in 1Q15.

In 2016 so far, Fiserv (FISV) has outperformed the financial sector as well as the broad market. The Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF)(VFH) represents the financial sector. Year-to-date, the financial sector has lost 1.9%. In comparison, Fiserv (FISV) has gained 6.6% during the year so far.

Peers’ performance

Since the beginning of 2016 through April 28, the financial sector has been under the knife, backed by fears of a global recession and a low interest rate outlook. Year-to-date, shares of peers Fidelity Information Services (FIS) have gained 8.5%. Comparatively, Jack Henry & Associates (JKHY) generated 4.6% returns in 2016 so far.
