Finland's UPM says Uruguay pulp mill gets green light

(Reuters) - Finnish forestry group UPM's pulp mill in Uruguay has received authorization for its new Paso de los Toros pulp mill from the environmental authorities, the company said in a statement on Saturday.

The mill will commence operations immediately, and first customer deliveries are expected to ship in May, it said.

The company had earlier announced that its $2.72 billion eucalyptus pulp mill would grow its pulp business by more than 50%.

UPM and its subcontractors will create 4,000 new jobs through the value chain, the company said.

The pulp and paper maker announced the project in 2019.
