Fancy moving near a beach? You can live for free on this remote Irish island for 7 months

Looking to move somewhere lesser-known? The remote Irish island of Great Blasket is on the hunt for a couple to move to its shores for seven months — and, best of all, both food and accommodation will be free.

Before you pack up your bags, it's worth knowing that in order to live on the island you'll have to be able to run its small coffee shop and manage the island's accommodation.

Great Blasket is a relatively under-the-radar spot, with just a handful of full-time residents left. Situated just a stone's throw from the coast of Count Kerry in Ireland, it is only accessible by boat from the surrounding islands.

With its summer season set to kick-start this April, locals are looking for someone to relocate to the island until October. On Twitter, the job listing explains: 'A unique position required – looking for long term management of Island Accommodation and Coffee Shop. Couple or two friends. 1st April 2020 - October 2020 accommodation and food provided.'

In the 20th century, the small fishing community had shrunk to around 20 inhabitants (it's thought the most it ever had was around 150). But, after the government stepped in to help, its crumbling numbers have thankfully been on the rise.

With a famed fishing heritage, idyllic views and natural environment, it's the perfect place to head to if you're looking to spend your summer away from the crowds, or want a fresh start somewhere completely new, even if it's only short-term.

If you love the great outdoors, good coffee, soft beaches and the sound of the ocean crashing against the shore, you will most certainly love relocating here.

Interested? If you want to apply for the position, contact Alice on info@greatblasketisland.net for more information. Good luck!
