European stocks rise at open; London up 0.37%

Europe's main stock markets posted solid gains at the start of trading on Monday, with London's benchmark FTSE 100 index rising 0.37 percent to 6,359.06 points despite a downgrade to Britain's credit rating.

Frankfurt's DAX 30 jumped 0.91 percent to 7,731.80 points and in Paris the CAC 40 gained 0.43 percent 3,722.04.

Moody's stripped Britain of its triple-A debt rating after London markets had shut on Friday, saying government debt was still mounting and that growth was too weak to reverse the trend before 2016.
