CHICAGO, November 10, 2021--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR), today announced that the Company was named the Gold Nareit 2021 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion ("DEI") award recipient. This award recognizes Equity Residential for having demonstrated a strong commitment to the advancement of diversity and inclusion both within the Company as well as in the REIT and publicly traded real estate industry.

Each year, winners of these awards are selected in a blind evaluation by a panel of judges active in DEI in organizations beyond the REIT industry. This year’s judges reviewed the companies and individuals based on their DEI programs, recent accomplishments, and reporting metrics.

Equity Residential recently published its 2021 ESG Report. The report includes details on the Company’s work to support a diverse and inclusive culture by, among other things:

  • further enhancing our processes around hiring and promotion to ensure a diverse slate of candidates is sought and considered for every mid-level and higher role;

  • conducting numerous listening sessions where diverse groups of employees shared with executive management their unique life experiences as well as suggestions to help ensure Equity Residential remains an inclusive workplace;

  • adding additional outreach efforts to build a future pipeline of diverse talent; and,

  • keeping diversity, in its broadest sense, a focus for the Company.
