Emma Raducanu will make her first professional appearance in the country of her father’s birth when she plays in the Transylvania Open this month.
The Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca will play host to some of the top tennis stars of the women’s game, including top-seed Halep and Raducanu, seeded No3, following the Brit’s stunning run to the US Open title.
However, any home support to cheer on Raducanu will be absent after a local spike in Covid-19 cases meant the tournament will be held behind closed doors.
A statement read: “Due to a last moment government decision, we are sadly forced to host Transylvania Open without any fans.
“We did our absolute best to be prepared with the safest possible event in these special circumstances, following all the rules and the safety procedures, and we were confident in our ability to deliver it.”
Raducanu has been drawn to face Slovenia’s Polona Hercog, the world No123, in the first-round with No6 seed Marta Kostyuk and home favourite Halep on her side of the draw for the later stages.
When is Emma Raducanu playing at Transylvania Open?
Raducanu will be in action on Monday or Tuesday, October 24 or 25, when the first-round gets underway in Romania.
The final order of play will be decided once the qualifying rounds are completed on Sunday.
