Dwayne Johnson was immortalised in the form of a Macy’s Parade float — albeit digitally — to promote his new NBC show Young Rock.

The 48-year-old star was depicted as part of an advert which aired during coverage of the Thanksgiving parade, purporting to show a gigantic version of the notorious 1990s photo in which he sports jeans and a bum bag.

Young Rock is a biographical series, depicting Johnson at numerous stages of his life as a child growing up in a wrestling family, as well as his career as a sportsman during his teenage years and time at college.

Johnson shared the advert with his 204 million followers on Instagram, saying that the photo — famously mocked by Kevin Hart — represents “when I had just seven bucks in my fanny pack”.

Young Rock features different actors portraying Johnson at various ages, as well as depictions of other famous figures from the wrestling world.

Adrian Groulx will portray Johnson at the age of 10, Bradley Constant will play him as a 15-year-old and the young adult Johnson — aged 20 — will be played by Uli Latukefu.

Groulx appears in a selection of images shared by Johnson revealing some of the famous wrestlers who will have a presence in the series.

These include Johnson’s father, Rocky Johnson (Joseph Lee Anderson), as well as Andre the Giant (Matthew Willig), Junkyard Dog (Nate Jackson) and The Iron Sheik (Brett Azar).

Johnson has always spoken about the influence of his WWE Hall of Famer father — who passed away earlier this year at the age of 75 — on his success.

Young Rock will focus on Johnson’s early years, sowing the seeds for what became a near-miss in the NFL and, subsequently, one of the most memorable wrestling careers of all time.

He then embarked on the pivot to Hollywood that has culminated in him being the highest-paid movie star on the planet for the last few years.

Discussing the transition from the ring to the big screen earlier this year, Johnson said he wanted a career with “real, long-lasting career that had weight and value”.

He added: “Just because you were a successful professional wrestler did not mean, in any uncertain terms, that you were gonna become a box office draw or a legitimate movie star. There were no guarantees.”

He was also named the Sexiest Man Alive by People in 2016, which is probably just as important as the money — maybe.

Young Rock is due to air in the USA on NBC in 2021.
