The Duchess of Cornwall has recommended some wonderful novels as part of her book club, The Reading Room, so far - including Delia Owens' Where the Crawdad's Sing, and Elif Shafak's The Architect's Apprentice.

Camilla's latest choice, Susan Hill's The Various Haunts of Men, has already gone down well with fans, particularly those who love a spine-tingling crime thriller.

First published in 2004, The Various Haunts of Men is the first in Hill's series of seven Simon Serrailler crime novels which follows charismatic chief inspector Serrailler in the idyllic fictional Cathedral city of Lafferton.

Posting a copy of the novel on the official Reading Room Instagram account, the Duchess also added the caption: "HRH’s second choice for Season Three is Susan Hill's "The Various Haunts of Men": the first in her series of seven Simon Serrailler crime novels. Do you enjoy crime fiction? Or does it make you sleep with the light on...?"

One fan responded: "This is a fantastic series, I've read them all, great characters and engaging stories, already have the next on pre order."

Another enthused: "Love all the Simon Serrailler series I am now up to The Comforts of Home, I think the 9th in the series I am totally hooked."

Reading Room followers were also delighted to receive Nobel Prize-winning novelist Kazuo Ishiguro's four book recommendations. Camilla had previously included Kazuo's 1989 novel Remains of the Day as a Reading Room recommendation over the summer.

Kazuo's top four books are Jonathan Coe's Wilder and Me, Nancy Mitford's Love in a Cold Climate, Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, and R. C. Sherriff's The Fortnight in September.
