Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Manchester United?
(POOL/AFP via Getty Images)Rio Ferdinand believes Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin would make an excellent summer addition for Manchester United in the event they are unable to sign the likes of Erling Haaland or Harry Kane.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is almost certain to be in the market for new forwards this summer, especially if the experienced and influential Edinson Cavani opts not to remain at Old Trafford beyond the end of his initial one-year contract.
United - along with most of Europe’s other heavyweight clubs including rivals Chelsea and Manchester City - are known to harbour a long-term interest in Haaland, having tried to sign the prolific Norwegian international before his switch to Borussia Dortmund last January.
They are also one of the clubs that would be expected to push to sign England captain Kane in the event that he decided to leave Tottenham, a possibility that has been mooted if Jose Mourinho’s side miss out on Champions League qualification once again this term.

But Red Devils legend Ferdinand has now presented an alternative option in the form of Calvert-Lewin, who has scored 23 goals for club and country so far this season including two early hat-tricks and is regarded as both a key figure at Goodison Park and a likely member of England’s squad for the rescheduled European Championship this summer.
"Listen, Dominic Calvert-Lewin for me, I love him,” Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five podcast. "I've watched a lot of Everton this year and he's one that unnerves defenders. He's not one you want to play against week in, week out. He's aggressive, he attacks the ball.
"I was speaking to [Everton manager] Carlo Ancelotti earlier this year and he mentioned [Filippo] Inzaghi and said he didn't need many chances to score goals and he scores goals in and around the six-yard box.
"I look at Calvert-Lewin this season and he's listened to that, he's taken that on board. Obviously he seems a real good student of the game and he's started putting that into his own game.
"We've seen the rewards he's had, he's got into the England squad by scoring loads of goals in and around the six-yard box – scoring those ugly goals.
"I think he'd be a fantastic signing for Manchester United. It's one out of left-field a little bit but I think he'd have a big impact.
"He'd get on the end of the things created by [Bruno] Fernandes, [Paul] Pogba, [Marcus] Rashford, [Mason] Greenwood etc.
"It's whether Ole sees that as something that is feasible or am I not going to get the likes of Haaland or Kane?
"If either of those come up they'll be first-choice as long as the money is not crazy and it's doable."
