Yahoo Finance All 9 new COVID cases in Singapore asymptomatic; 1 in the community
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed nine new COVID-19 cases in Singapore as of Friday (30 October) noon, taking its total case count to 58,003.
Of them, seven are imported cases. “All new cases today are asymptomatic, and were detected from our proactive screening and surveillance,” said the ministry.
The remaining two are locally-transmitted COVID-19 infections, with one classified as in the community while the other resides in a foreign worker dormitory.
The lone community case, currently unlinked, was detected when he underwent a pre-departure COVID-19 test on 27 October – prior to a planned trip to India – which came back positive.
He had been in India in July and August, and had served 14-day stay-home notice at a dedicated facility when he returned to Singapore on 28 August.
“He was tested negative for COVID-19 while serving the notice. His serological test taken on 29 October is positive, and epidemiological investigations are ongoing to determine if this could be a past infection,” said the MOH.
The case in the dorm had been identified earlier as a contact of previous cases, and had already been quarantined and tested.

Of the seven imported cases, one is a permanent resident who returned from Italy, and the other is a long-term visit pass holder who arrived from Bangladesh. Four are currently employed in Singapore – of them, three are work pass holders who arrived from US, Belgium and Portugal, and one is a work permit holder who arrived from Bangladesh.
The last imported case on Friday is a special pass holder who arrived from the Philippines to board a ship docked here as a crew member.
All of them had been placed on the stay-home notice upon their arrival here and were tested while serving their notice.
Separately, the MOH added several major shopping malls, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) building, and a travel agency to a list of places visited by community cases while infectious.
99% of total cases have recovered; none in ICU
With 10 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Friday, 57,909 cases – or 99.8 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.
Most of the 42 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while none is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
A total of 24 patients with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
Apart from 28 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
