Yahoo Finance COVID-19: Singapore reports 10 new cases of infection, all imported
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed the detection of 10 new cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore as of noon on Saturday (23 January), taking the country’s total case count to 59,260.
All the cases are imported and have been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) upon their arrival in the country, said MOH in a news release. There are no new cases of locally transmitted COVID-19 infection.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from six cases in the week before to 17 cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has decreased from four cases in the week before to three cases in the past week.
Among the 10 imported cases:
• Cases 59540 and 59541 are Singaporeans who returned from India.
• Case 59537 is a work pass holder who arrived from India.
• Cases 59542, 59543, 59545, 59547 and 59548 are work permit holders who arrived from Indonesia and Myanmar, all of whom are foreign domestic workers.
• Cases 59538 and 59539 are short-term visit pass holders. Case 59538 arrived from the US to visit his Singaporean fiancee and Case 59539 arrived from Ecuador for a work project in Singapore.
99% of total cases have recovered
With 32 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Saturday, 59,015 cases – or 99.6 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.
Most of the 38 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, and one is in the intensive care unit.
A total of 178 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
Apart from 29 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
Amongs the 177 cases reported from 17 to 23 January, 89 cases have tested positive for their serology tests, 30 have tested negative, and 58 serology test results are pending.
