Coronavirus: Honestbee temporarily suspends Habitat's operations due to outbreak

SINGAPORE — Grocery startup Honestbee has temporarily suspended operations at its hypermarket Habitat by Honestbee from Monday (10 February) till 23 February due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The closure may be extended if necessary, an Honestbee spokesperson told Yahoo Finance Singapore on Monday.

The decision was made after Singapore raised its Disease Outbreak Response System Condition (Dorscon) level to “orange” from “yellow” on Friday as the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection increased, as well as a “significant reduction in walk-in traffic”, the spokesperson added.

The company will continue to deliver groceries ordered online.

All related staff have been reminded to maintain good personal hygiene at all times, and will be provided with hand sanitisers and face masks, the spokesperson said.

As of Sunday, 12pm, there were 43 confirmed coronavirus cases in Singapore including three new cases involving two Singaporean men and one Bangladeshi men while the number of locally transmitted cases totalled 22.

The coronavirus situation has caused some events in Singapore to be cancelled or event participants to pull out.

The Ladies Professional Golf Association said on Monday that the HSBC Women’s World Championship 2020, scheduled to be held in Singapore from 27 February to 1 March, was cancelled after the Singapore government raised the Dorscon level to “orange”.

More than 70 companies, including US defence firms Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, have pulled out of the Singapore Airshow, which is slated to run from 11-16 February, on concerns of the outbreak.
