Companies to watch: JCP board member buys more shares, Intel makes acquisition, Alibaba takes steps for Hong Kong listing

Here are the companies Yahoo Finance is watching today.

A big bet on JCPenney (JCP). Board member Javier Teruel just bought more than a million dollars worth of shares at an average price of about $0.98 a piece. It's not clear what's behind the purchase. He's been on Penney's board for more than a decade and was a former top executive at Colgate-Palmolive. He also serves on the board of Starbucks.

Intel (INTC) is stepping up its fight against rival Broadcom. It's buying networking startup Barefoot Networks. The price tag wasn't revealed. Barefoot makes chips that help manage ethernet-based communications, an area Broadcom has dominated for years. Google, Tencent and Alibaba have all invested in Barefoot. It's not clear if they'll reap some of the profits from the buyout deal.

Alibaba (BABA) has reportedly lined up some big names to help handle its next IPO. Bloomberg says the internet giant is going with Credit Suisse and China International Capital Corp. for a planned new listing in Hong Kong. Alibaba is looking to raise upwards of $20 billion dollars with the share sale.

Amazon (AMZN) is set to open its second cashier-free Amazon Go store in New York today. About a month ago, Amazon opened its first cashier-free store in the city. Both locations are found in busy business communities with banks like JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America close by. This marks the thirteenth Amazon Go location in the United States.

Honda (HMC) just broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest lawnmower. The Mean Mower V2 can travel from zero to 100 miles per hour in about 6.29 seconds. To be in the record books the mower had to complete two runs in opposite directions and prove that it could cut grass.
